Hakob Hovhannisyan (Ioannissian)

Please see an article in Russian about the persecution and killing of Hakob Hovhannisyan, Rector of Yerevan State University and of the Medical Institute, arrested in 1937 during Stalin's purges (1994, in Russian). Brothers Hakob and Ashot Hovhannisyan (government and academician) were uncles of Alexander Ter-Gabrielyan (senior).

On the picture: Hakob Hovhannisyan in his office in the Medical institute. Behind him is the portrait of Ashot Hovhannisyan, his brother, by Martiros Saryan. The portrait has been destroyed after the persecution of two brothers, the only picture of it is on this photograph.
